"To be honest I'd have preferred a home draw," said Kenny "because at the moment we're looking for every opportunity to improve awareness of the club around the town but still, it'll be a nice opportunity for us to come down and take on the best team in the country."
Shamrock Rovers boss Mick Byrne was similarly disappointed to be drawn away from home in the last eight but happy that his side will only have to make the short journey up the road to Dalymount. "Out of the whole lot they're probably the ones we would have liked to take on. There's a great rivalary between the two clubs and so it should attract a good gate, the only disappointment is having to go up there."
Cork, said Felix Healy yesterday, were precisely the one team that he did not want to see come out of the hat at the same time as Derry but the fact that the Candystripes came out first made all the difference to the northerner. "The one thing we didn't want to have to do was travel down there midweek and I know they'll be annoyed when they hear, I just hope nobody tells them before they go out to play their European game."
The fourth tie will be between last year's beaten finalists and the previous season's winners, Shelbourne and Galway United, with the meeting provisionally pencilled in for Tuesday, the 15th of September.
The Dalymount game, however, is the only one for which a date has actually been agreed at this point with St Patrick's hoping to bring their match forward one day, Shelbourne interested in playing on Sunday week and Derry intending to ask Cork to travel north next Wednesday - that should certainly soften the blow.
Brian Kerr, meanwhile, has lost two of the players selected for next week's Under-18 international against England in Tolka Park. Dave Billington of Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke's Clive Clarke have both been forced to withdraw from the Irish panel due to injury with Billington lined up to undergo surgery on a knee problem.
The Ireland manager has called buup Darragh Ryan, a son of former senior international Gerry, to help fill with the gap and the Brighton player, who has only recently returned to action after breaking his leg midway through last season, is now scheduled to join up with the rest of Kerr's party in Dublin over the weekend.
