SOCCER:CARDIFF MOVED to the top of the league thanks to a 3-1 victory over Norwich on Saturday. Jay Bothroyd, Michael Chopra and Peter Whittingham scored for the home side, with Wes Hoolahan pulling one back for Norwich.
Liam Lawrence scored the winner as Portsmouth extended their unbeaten run to seven games as they narrowly overcame Nottingham Forest, 2-1.
John Utaka’s ball into the box in the 62nd minute fell to Lawrence and he drilled the ball through a sea of bodies.
Barnsley manager Mark Robins claimed his side “did enough to win three football matches” following their 1-1 draw with Hull at Oakwell.
Tykes winger Adam Hammill scored a stunning opening goal, but Hull’s Kevin Kilbane fired through a crowded penalty area to snatch a point for the visitors.
Ipswich manager Roy Keane was pleased to silence the critics who had “panicked and worried” over his team’s form following their 2-0 win over Millwall.
“I wouldn’t say it’s been a great week but it’s been a better week than last week,” said Keane.
The game of the weekend was at the Madejski Stadium, where Reading came back from 3-1 down to stun Doncaster, 4-3.
Reading’s Matt Mills opened the scoring, but goals from James Hayter, Shelton Martis and Dean Shiels looked to have put Seán O’Driscoll’s side in control.
But Jem Karacan soon got on the scoresheet and Ian Harte’s superb free-kick levelled matters.
Substitute Simon Church then pounced for the winner.
