ENGLAND'S proposals for re-entry into the Five Nations Championship were received by the presidents of the other three home unions yesterday.

Earlier in the week England met to formulate a more acceptable attitude towards the dispute over television rights.

The RFU president, John Richardson, contacted his counter parts, and Scottish president Fred McLeod said. "The Scottish Rugby Union, along with the Irish and Welsh Rugby Unions, has received a confidential letter from the president of the RFU enclosing proposal for their reinstatement to the Five Nations Championship.

"The individual unions will be discussing those proposals and will then meet within the next week to consider their collective response.

"In the meantime, until we have discussed the matter further, it would be inappropriate to comment further."

England will seriously have underestimated the rigid mood of the others if the document does not bring about yet another meeting of the Five Nations in London late next week in an attempt to give the kiss of life to the championship in its traditional form.
