Emma Gilmore may be only 11-years-old, but already she is making a name for herself at Mountbellew golf club. The student of Moylough National School had the best overall score in the Lady Captain's (Helen Cunningham) Prize when she shot a nett 90 to win by three shots from Siobhan Fallon, who had 93, and Carmel Haverty on 93 1/2. Emma, however, being a junior, did not qualify for the first prize but had the reward of finishing second, and now plays off a 32 having lost nine shots in the last month. The gross prize was won by Helen Costello (11) with a score of 121.
Another who is taking advantage of the excellent condition of the courses this year is Elm Park's Carmel Gallagher. Carmel had 44 points in last week's singles - 24 points on the front nine and 20 on the way home - which resulted in her handicap being reduced from 33 to 29.
