Terenure College, showing more strength up front and swifter handling in the backs, secured their semi-final place by beating Trinity at College Park.
In the process Terenure outscored the students by five tries to two. The winners' first try came in the 20th minute when number eight Donnach O'Donohue picked up from the base of a scrum to crash over near the posts. Girvan Dempsey, who had kicked a penalty earlier, missed the conversion, but at 8-3 Terenure were beginning to pull away.
Two minutes later O'Donohue scored his second try when he again picked up from a scrum 10 metres out and raced over on the left-hand side. Dempsey added the conversion to leave Terenure 15-3 ahead.
Five minutes later, Trinity replied with a try by left wing Shane McLoughlin, when he received a flick pass and scored in the left corner. Ian Quigley missed the conversion, to leave his side trailing 15-8 at the break.
Ten minutes after the restart, Terenure got their third try when hooker James Blaney received a pass from out-half Shane Cullen and further tries by Colin Potts and Ciaran Clarke put the winners out of sight.
Trinity got a consolation try when right wing Dave Malone went over. But it was too late and Terenure proceed to the next stage.
