Cork IT 4-11 NUI Galway 1-10:LIMERICK'S TOMMY Quaid grabbed a couple of early goals when playing against the strong wind to help Cork IT win a disappointing tie in Cork yesterday.

After tapping over a point from a fourth-minute penalty, Quaid claimed his first goal three minutes later when Kilkenny star Colin Fennelly set him up. Quaid pounced on poor handling by goalkeeper Donal Tuohy to bundle home the second for a 2-1 to 0-1 lead after only nine minutes.

Cork IT scored a brilliant third goal after 17 minutes. Once again Fennelly was the provider, picking out Jamie Coughlan, and he, in turn, sent John Cronin clear for a smashing score.

NUI Galway tried to keep in touch, with Niall Burke’s free-taking leaving their hosts 3-2 to 0-7 in front at the interval.

The visitors rallied briefly when Caimin Morey goaled on 38 minutes, but the home side found another couple of gears in the closing quarter.
