Dunlop's sights set on another TT success

JOEY DUNLOP is on course to add to his remarkable record in the Isle of Man TT races

JOEY DUNLOP is on course to add to his remarkable record in the Isle of Man TT races. The 45-year-old Ballymoney publican is chasing the 23rd success in his 21-year racing career on the island as he powers the diminutive Honda 125 into this morning's four lap Ultra-Lightweight race.

Dunlop, who had considered quitting after a gruelling ride to sixth place in last Saturday's Formula One race, bounced back to top form with a dominant winning ride in Monday's 250cc race.

"I really enjoyed that ride and with a day's rest, I am feeling great to go out for more victories. I was feeling my age on Saturday, but not any more," he said.

"I am as fast as ever on the 125 and feel good, there is no reason why I cannot win again."

His rivals include younger brother Robert, who returns to TT action after suffering multiple injuries in an horrific high speed crash at the event two years ago.

Cardiff's Ian Lougher topped yesterday's practice leaderboard for the race at 108.18mph, with Dennis McCullough also well in contention.

And in the day's second race, the Junior TT for Supersport 600 machines, Phillip McCallen pushes himself through the pain barrier in his efforts to win a second race this week.

After winning Saturday's TT Formula One, he crashed out of Monday's 250cc race, at 150 miles an hour, at Quarry Bends, leaving himself battered and bruised and with a badly swollen left hand.

Dalbeattie rider Ian Simpson is the pre-race favourite having recorded a 117.33mph lap in practice, four seconds faster than McCallen.
