LEINSTER COLLEGES SF A QUARTER-FINALS:A GOAL in either half from Conal Ó Néill and dual player Oisín Ó Ruairc helped a dominant Coláiste Eoin account for Coláiste Mhuire Mullingar, 2-11 to 0-5, at Silver Park on Saturday afternoon.
Ó Néill pushed Coláiste Eoin four clear with a wonderful finish in the 14th minute, availing of a precise pass from Colm Ó Cróinín.
The Dubliners finished the half strongly through a brace of points from Ó Néill and Roibeard Mac Dáibhéid to lead by 1-7 to 0-2 at the interval. Shane Dempsey and Dara Lyons reduced the deficit early in the second-half but the hosts replied through three points from Dublin minor Dáithí Ó Cathmhaoil. Their last four spot was assured when Ó Ruairc’s goal sealed the victory.
MOATECS corner forwards Lorcan Dolan and Martin Rock were in top scoring form as the Westmeath side gave an exhibition of point-taking in a deserved 0-16 to 1-7 win over St Peter's, Wexford at Carlow IT grounds.
Dolan hit five points from play while Rock recorded four from play as Moate’s second half pressure eventually wore down a plucky St Peter’s side. In all the winners recorded 0-13 from play.
Backed by the wind in the first half, Peter’s led 1-6 to 0-6 at the interval, helped by a goal from full-forward Jamie Carthy. A Carthy point soon extended that lead but, inspired by midfielder and captain David McCormack, Moate hit 10 unanswered points to advance.
HOLDERSDundalk Colleges defeated Knockbeg College, 3-6 to 1-10 in a stormy encounter which saw both sides finish with 14 players at Páirc Tailteann. Dundalk were boosted by two penalty goals, one in each half by Eoin Doyle. A spectacular goal from Eoin O'Dwyer helped Knockbeg lead 1-3 to 0-0 early on but Dundalk rallied to trail by 1-4 to 1-5, at the break. Ben McLoughlin's brilliant goal on 44 minutes left them ahead (2-6 to 1-8) for the first time. Knockbeg regained the lead but Doyle's second penalty late on clinched the win.
