Double for Hughes

Adrian Maguire and Pat Hughes combined for a double with Mumaris and Lanturn at Cork last night.

Adrian Maguire and Pat Hughes combined for a double with Mumaris and Lanturn at Cork last night.

Mumaris, who struck the front after the penultimate flight to beat favourite Marsul by a comfortable two and a half lengths in the novice hurdle, may revert to the flat at the Tralee Festival later this month.

Maguire brought his Irish tally this season to six when Lanturn made all half an hour later for a comfortable victory in the handicap hurdle. The Lancastrian gelding relished the fast ground (officially firm), drawing clear from the home turn to beat Rodrigo by 15 lengths.

Hughes, now on the nine-winner mark, said: "He needs fast ground and a test of stamina to show his best, and may go chasing soon."
