Clare champions Doonbeg made no mistake in reaching another Munster club football final with a comprehensive victory over a weakened Luane Rangers in their semi-final meeting at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney on Saturday.

It may have taken two goals towards the end of the second half for the reigning provincial title holders to completely put away the Kerry challenge, but for the most part they had the greater strength and confidence throughout. Their aerial advantage was particularly decisive and helped to build a 0-5 to 0-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Kieran Nugent was proving highly effective at midfield and he also contributed three points before the end of the half. The Killorglin challenge, however, remained consistently sparse with only Liam Hassett creating any great danger. Unfortunately for the Kerry support, his one big opening was well blocked by Nigel Dillon. For the most part though, the Rangers' forwards had few opportunities.

The Doonbeg movement hinged a great deal on the imagination of Francis McInerney at centre forward, well supported by Michael Conway. Padraig Conway was also proving very effective in the attack and they certainly deserved their lead of 08 to 0-3 at half-way.

After that, the sense of desperation resulted in a number of positional switches in the Rangers side, with Mike Hassett moving into midfield in the hope of creating more space. It briefly made a difference as inter-county panelist Pa O'Sullivan produced three impressive points in succession along with a superb long-range score from Liam Hassett. That brought Rangers right back into the game heading into the final quarter.

It became an increasingly tightly fought affair from then on but eventually the breakthrough scores came for Doonbeg. Senan Hehir delivered a high ball into the goal area and brother Paul was first up to fist it to the net.

Then on 53 minutes Michael Conway did something similar by again using his fist to send the ball into the net after some creative work by Gerry Killeen. After that there was no way back from Rangers despite their spirited fight to the finish. Doonbeg will now meet the winners of Cork and Waterford.
