KEN DOHERTY became the fourth winner of the European Snooker League in its 10 year history last night. Despite some scrappy snooker at times, Doherty ran out a comfortable 10-5 winner over Steve Davis.

The world number seven took the £50,000 winner's cheque in the best of 19 frames match after holding a 6-2 advantage at the interval. Davis played poorly to go three frames down, but his form picked up and he missed chances in the last two frames.

But Doherty always held the upper hand and clinched victory with a superb break of 107. Afterwards, Doherty said: "It's been a big bonus beating Steve, who's always been one of my idols.
