This relegation clash at Kilternan saw DLSP pick up their first win of the campaign with Buccaneers running out of steam in an uneven encounter. DLSP move away from the bottom of the table with Buccaneers now the only team in the first division without a win.
But for the sturdiness of DLSP's defence in the first half, with Buccaneers dominant up front, the visitors might have had a more substantial lead going into the second half. As things stood, two missed penalties from outhalf Eamon Molloy meant just a kick separated the teams at the break with Buccaneers leading 9-6.
Things were not going too well for DLSP at that time with their attempts at a 10-man game not yielding much success. But a more expansive approach after the restart reaped the required dividends.
Molloy had given Buccaneers the lead on five minutes only for Damien McCabe to respond a few moments later. Molloy then handed the visitors the initiative, but McCabe levelled proceedings for the second time with kick from the left just curling in.
Molloy landed another penalty, but the turning moment then came 16 minutes into the second half when a quick change of hands from McCabe saw DLSP's Romanian-capped full back, Mihail Vioreanu, come in at an angle to score under the posts.
DLSP went over for their second try six minutes later when wing forward Bruce Woods duped the defence. McCabe added the conversion to make it 20-3.
Simon Broughton then added a drop goal before a converted try from Chris Keane gave Buccaneers the consolation of a bonus point in the dying seconds.
