CONNACHT SCHOOLS SH A FINAL/Presentation, Athenry 1-13 Gort CS 2-9:GORT COMMUNITY School's hopes of winning their sixth Connacht Colleges senior hurling title were dashed as Presentation College, Athenry, captured their first title since 1977.

James Divilly was the hero for the Athenry school as he shot 1-9 to claim the title at Kenny Park in Athenry on Saturday.

A goal from Jonathan Glynn gave the champions a good start and they led by 1-6 to 0-7 at the interval.

Two points from Conor Caulfield boosted Athenry but when Michael Mullins flicked to the Athenry net a minute later it looked as if Gort would cruise to victory. But Divilly stepped forward once more and got a goal from a 21-yards free in the 40th minute to level the match at 1-10 to 2-7.

Athenry showed the greater hunger late on and another Divilly free and a great individual score from substitute Jack Carr halted Gort’s impressive run in the competition.
