It was confirmed yesterday that Frankie Dettori will attempt to win his first Kildangan Stud Irish Oaks on Lailani at the Curragh on Sunday.
The popular Italian has been out of luck in the classics so far this season and will be hoping that will change on Lailani who was a £28,000 supplementary entry into the Oaks earlier in the week.
"We will also run Mot Juste who will be ridden by Richard Hughes and both fillies seem to be in good form. We are hoping for good ground," a spokesman for the Ed Dunlop stable said yesterday.
Dettori could also be in action for the Godolphin yard in the Group Two Goffs International Stakes tomorrow. Slickly, winner of last autumn's Prix Dollar, figures among the entries for the nine-furlong contest despite not having run since March.
Looking further ahead, a record prizemoney total of £1,144,000 was announced yesterday for the week-long Galway Festival which will begin in 17 days time. Every one of the 52 races is sponsored and the most valuable will be the £110,000 Guinness Hurdle on the fourth day.
There is action at Dundalk and Wexford this evening and at the latter track, punters should get off to a flyer in the mares maiden hurdle with Rocamadoura. Kieran Gaule's mount was an all the way winner on the Flat at Naas last month and on her last start took a 93 rating into a stakes race at the Curragh. Even barely adequate jumping should be enough for her to score against the track bumper winner Rapsan.
Coq De Mirande can complete a hat-trick in the novice chase and Norman Williamson looks a significant booking for Search For Peace in the handicap chase.
Up north Paul Carberry can land the first two races on Saddlers' Mark and Annaghmore Gale while Kevin Manning can also be on the double courtesy of Aqribaa and Biddy Blackhurst.
