Dettori's mobile warning

Frankie Dettori shrugged aside a spot of bother with a mobile telephone to ring in another double at Doncaster yesterday.

Frankie Dettori shrugged aside a spot of bother with a mobile telephone to ring in another double at Doncaster yesterday.

He found himself in trouble with the stewards for chatting to David Platt, seconds after the former Arsenal footballer's horse Handsome Ridge had won the GNER Park Stakes.

Shortly after passing the post, Arsenal fan Dettori was passed the 'phone to explain to the jubilant Platt, who was in Sardinia, how the race had gone.

The officials spotted Dettori's actions and he was interviewed by stewards' secretary Patrick Hibbert-Foy but no action was taken.

"Mr Hibbert-Foy had a quiet word with me and he does have a point - I suppose it doesn't look good," said Dettori. "The owner was just excited over the win and wanted to have a quick word, but a football player wouldn't do it if he'd scored a goal."

Dettori went on to complete his double when Carando secured the May Hill Stakes in good style.
