FRANKIE DETTORI returns to the saddle at Newmarket tonight eight weeks after he fractured his elbow in a parade ring fall. The dual champion jockey partners Conon Falls for his main employer John Gosden after a much quicker than expected recovery.

His mount, a Sadler's Wells half brother to Brigadier Gerard Stakes winner Pilsudski, makes his debut in the Carwin Maiden Stakes, up against similarly well bred newcomers from the Cole, Stoute and Dunlop yards.

Originally thought likely to be out for at least another month, Dellori has surprised everyone with the speed of his recovery. After being given the go ahead by surgeon Dr Richard Dodds on Tuesday, clearance by the race course doctor before racing today is expected to be a formality for the Italian.

Gosden said. "I am pleased he will be in action on Friday. It makes a great difference to the stable but both my runners will need the run.

To start with Dettori is limiting his mounts to horses from the Gosden or Godolphin yards. He could be back in the spotlight a week tomorrow when Classic Cliche could contest the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury.
