Derby's hopes of avoiding relegation were dealt a blow last night when they were deservedly beaten after Craig Burley had wasted a chance to give them a 2-1 lead from the penalty spot just before half-time.
Within eight minutes Jim Smith's side were behind to a deflected Matt Svensson header here. With Jensen and Parker driving forward at every opportunity and passing well from the centre of midfield, Charlton pinned Derby in their own half.
There was an element of good fortune to the goal, but it was no more than Charlton deserved.
The visitors had managed no more than a couple of crosses when they equalised with their first meaningful effort in the 35th minute.
Burley was the scorer, bending a free-kick beyond Dean Kiely as the goalkeeper appeared to be organising his wall, and if that was unjust, worse seemed certain to follow for Charlton in the 43rd minute.
A poor Mark Fish back-pass culminated in Kiely bringing down Malcolm Christie to concede a penalty. Burley struck the kick firmly to Kiely's right but the Ireland goalkeeper saved impressively.
Poom was kept busy at the other end, but Jensen deserved a goal after breaking from the halfway line, holding off Powell and then turning inside a defender in the box. His shot was saved by Poom but Parker forced in the loose ball.
