MOTOR SPORT:PETER DEMPSEY and Daniel Barry compete for championships in racing and rallying on both sides of the Atlantic this season.
Dempsey has signed with the 2008 American winning team AIM Autosport to contest the Star Mazda series in North America, commencing at Sebring, Florida today. Last year the Ashbourne driver finished third in this very competitive championship which is the equivalent of European Formula Three. Dempsey was on the podium seven times out of 14 races and scored four wins.
The Irishman is rated a serious championship contender, having impressed his new team with his speed, dedication and professionalism in recent pre-season testing.
Daniel Barry from Enniskerry and Martin Brady from Navan lead the British Mitsubishi Ralliart Challenge after winning the opening round, the Rallye Sunseeker run out of Bournemouth.
The Irish crew started their UK campaign with a second place on the non-championship Wyedean Rally. Barry and Brady lead the challenge series on 12 points.
Tomorrow’s second round is the Border Counties event run out of Jedburg in Northumberland.
