BASKETBALL:UCC DEMONS will be looking to round off a good week when they entertain Belfast Star in the Nivea For Men's SuperLeague on Sunday. The Cork giants booked their place in the 2012 National Cup finals at the expense of Bord Gáis Neptune in their last outing but focus now switches to ensuring they maintain their good form in the league.
“This is going to be a very difficult game for a whole number of reasons,” said Demons coach Paul Kelleher. “When you are playing a team that knows they should have won more games and then in return want to win more games, that is a very dangerous combination and they will be out to get one over on us.
“They are coached by one of the best in Danny Fulton and the fact that they beat us on their last visit to the Mardyke, it gives us an indication on how hard we are going to have to work to get the result we are looking for. We have to keep the pressure on Neptune for the top of the conference and keep UL off of our backs so this is a crucial game for us.”
UL Eagles will be in buoyant mood after ending their 11890 Killester hoodoo to book their place in the National Cup final but coach Mark Keenan will be keen to put all thoughts of that final to one side when they face UCD Marian this weekend. 11890 Killester and Bord Gáis Neptune face Moycullen and DCU Saints respectively.
In the Nivea Women’s SuperLeague, there will be a full schedule tomorrow. UL travel to the capital to face Liffey Celtics, Team Montenotte Hotel will host Singleton’s SuperValu Brunell and DCU Mercy make the trip to Waterford to take on the Wildcats.
Elsewhere, Ulster Rockets face Meteors and there will be a Dublin derby in Inchicore when Oblate Dynamos meet 11890 Killester.
