DERMOT DEASY has been recalled to the Dublin team after an 11 month absence for Sunday's Leinster senior football final against Meath in Croke Park. He will resume in his usual full back position in place of David Martin.
Deasy last wore the Dublin shirt in last year's All Ireland semi final against Cork. Since then he has been troubled by a back complaint. He was recalled to the panel some weeks ago.
Jason Sherlock was given the number 14 shirt instead of the injured Joe McNally. The Bohernabreena man turned up for a third successive training session this week at Santry last night but his hamstring injury ruled him out. "He is only 60 per cent," said Dublin manager Mickey Whelan.
The left half forward spot is left open pending Niall Guiden's fitness in a team that shows three changes from that which started against Louth.
The interesting feature of the attack is the recall of Pat Gilroy, who is selected on the 40.
Ciaran Walsh has been dropped from the panel, as has Paul Clarke, and Keith Galvin is injured.
Niall Guiden is hoping to be in a position to fill the number 12 shirt. He slipped a disc in his back while getting out of his car on Monday evening and took no part in training. If he does not make it Damien O'Brien could get the nod for a corner position. In this event Dessie Farrell would be moved out to the half line.
Jason Sherlock is delighted to get a starting place and is flanked by Charlie Redmond and Farrell in a particularly formidable looking full forward like.
It was emphatically confirmed in the Dublin camp yesterday evening that Paul Clarke, although disappointed to be off the panel, did not storm out of Tuesday's post training talk.
Whelan said last night. "The most unpleasant aspect of a manager's job is to tell a player bad news like being left out of the panel."
