TOUR NEWS:PHIL WAUGH'S international career may be over after the 79-cap flanker was omitted from the 30-man Australia squad for June Tests against Fiji, England and Ireland.
Coach Robbie Deans, who has been keen to inject fresh blood into the pack ahead of next year’s World Cup, also left 69-Test prop Al Baxter off a list that included six uncapped forwards.
Untested hookers Saia Faingaa and Huia Edmonds, along with props Ben Daley, Laurie Weeks and Salesi Ma’afu, were named to bolster a frontrow without the injured pair of Stephen Moore and Benn Robinson.
Western Force flanker Matt Hodgson and New South Wales Waratahs centre Rob Horne also have a chance to make their Test debuts in the Rocky Elsom-skippered side.
Deans selected 10 more players to be included in an Australian Barbarians line-up to play England on June 8th and 15th.
“There’s no doubt that we’ve widened the base a little bit in terms of playing depth,” New Zealander Deans said in a statement.
After all four Australian teams missed out on the Super 14s finals last year, the Waratahs broke into the top four this season.
Australia play Fiji in Canberra on June 5th before back-to-back Tests against England in Perth on June 12th and Sydney a week later.
The series is rounded off with a match against Ireland in Brisbane on June 26th.
