EILISH BYRNE has narrowly missed a medal in the Equestrian Individual Freestyle Test – Grade II in Greenwich Park.
In her favoured event, Byrne riding her horse YOURI scored a superb personal best 75.25 per cent, placing her third position with one rider to go. However, there was heartbreak in Greenwich Park as Angelika Trabert from Germany, the last rider in the event, scored 76.15 to push Bryne down to fourth.
Team manager Dara Kearney was delighted : “I am over the moon, Eilish performed for Ireland. She went for it and I could not ask for more. The riding was beautiful.”
Yesterday was a difficult day of racing for the Paralympic sailors in Weymouth. The scheduled morning racing had to be postponed for several hours as Portland Harbour was flat calm without a wisp of breeze. Racing finally began for the Sonar class at 2pm in seven knots of breeze. John Twomey and his crew placed 10th in Race 5 and 10th in Race 6. They finish day three maintaining their position of 10th overall with a further five races left to sail.
Ireland’s John McCarthy finished in seventh place in the men’s T51 100 metres final at the Olympic Stadium last night.
