BRITAIN'S Laura Davies made a determined start in the attempt to top the European money list for a record fourth time in the opening round of the £100,000 Italian Open at Il Picciola in Sicily yesterday.
Davies, who needs a top 10 finish to overtake Sweden's Helen Alfredsson, shot a five under par 68 to share the lead with Tina Fischer.
Maureen Madill from Portstewart is the best of the Irish contingent on 71 with Dubliner Aideen Rogers on 77 and Tracy Eakin struggling to an 80.
Davies, winner of seven tournaments this year, carded five birdies and an eagle in her round.
