RACING: ANYONE WRITING off this evening's Limerick action as non-descript midweek fare will do well to remember that the winner of the fillies maiden will be following in some illustrious footsteps.

The subsequent Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Bethrah broke her duck in the seven-furlong event a year ago and Dermot Weld sends another Sheikh Hamdan-owned runner to the race in Olfa today.

The daughter of Dubawi is making her debut against a couple of 82-rated fillies in Asheerah and Vasitas as well as John Oxx’s Dance Secretary whose debut last summer indicated she could be up to winning a race like this.

Oxx also sends Swampfire to Limerick for the colts maiden and this son of Anabaa wasn’t beaten far on his sole start to date last winter.

The in-form West Coast Dream makes a quick reappearance after winning at the Curragh on Sunday in the mile handicap but could face a stiff task against his old rival Northern Rocked.

West Coast Dream won over six furlongs at the weekend, and over seven before that at Leopardstown when having less than a length to spare over Northern Rocked.

Andy Oliver doesn’t see the mile as a problem for West Coast Dream but Northern Rocked is 8lb better off for less than a length and may be better drawn as well.

Gleadhradh faces five fillies in the opener but significantly Jim Bolger is dropping him in trip from his Dundalk success last month while a hike in distance can work for Pivotal Rock in the last.
