REPLACEMENT winger Cillian Purcell scored a spectacular try in injury time that gave a mightily relieved CUS victory over Section A pretenders Kilkenny College at Sydney Parade yesterday.

After a scoreless first half, the Noresiders looked on course for a historic win when out half David Smith finally broke the deadlock with a drop goal in the 49th minute.

CUS struck back eight minutes later with a penalty from out half Richard Dempsey. A replay looked likely until Purcell gathered the ball near his own 22, evaded the cover and dashed for the line 70 yards away. Dempsey converted and CUS scored again on the stroke of full time when Gareth Pitcher touched down.
