Cork City 2 Sligo Rovers 2:CORK CITY have now failed to win in their last four games after being held at Turner's Cross last night.
The Leesiders had to settle for a replay at the Showgrounds on Tuesday after the superb Rafael Cretaro scored for Sligo with 12 minutes remaining.
Cork were without the suspended Joe Gamble so he was replaced by Shane Duggan in midfield, while the other changes from last weekend’s draw with Shamrock Rovers saw Cillian Lordan coming in for Stephen O’Donnell and Billy Dennehy returning at the expense of Guntars Silagailis.
For Sligo, Alan Keane and Romauld Boco were in for Jason Noctor and Danny Keohane.
Cork began brightly and they were full value for their opening goal when it arrived after only 13 minutes. A Danny Murphy cross from the left found the unmarked Duggan and he headed home.
Sligo were level just four minutes later, however, when Cretaro set up Steve Feeney to finish from close range.
But the tie swung back in Cork’s favour shortly after the half-hour mark when Denis Behan headed the ball beyond the reach of Richard Brush at the near post after Danny Murphy provided another excellent delivery from wide on the left.
Sligo had a sizeable chunk of the possession in the second half, but they struggled to breach a disciplined defence. Owen Morrison went close shortly after the interval with a long-range strike.
But the visitors deservedly equalised in the 78th minute when Brian Cash’s cross found Cretaro 15 yards out and he finished with an excellent strike.
