US LPGA Tour: Under immense pressure, 18-year-old tour rookie Paula Creamer showed experience and skill beyond her years at Wykagyl Country Club in New York on Sunday to pick up her first LPGA Tour victory at the Sybase Classic.
Creamer birdied three of her last four holes, including one on the 18th. Struggling in cool and rainy conditions, Creamer was two over par for her round after a bogey on the 11th. She responded with back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th and then rolled in a 17-footer on the 72nd hole to get to six-under 278.
Creamer was one shot better than Koreans Jeong Jang and Gloria Park. Jang birdied three of her final four holes, including the 18th, and it looked as if she would be part of a play-off before Creamer sank her final birdie putt. Park had a birdie putt just before Creamer on the 18th but it rolled over the edge of the cup and slid past.
Christina Kim took a one-stoke lead into the final round but struggled to a two-over 73 and finished fourth at four under. Only 10 players were able to break par for the tournament at the 6,161 yard, par-71 Wykagyl Country Club course. At 18 years, eight months and 17 days, Creamer is the youngest winner on tour in 52 years.
