A THREE GOAL third quarter blitz by Cork sent them on their way to success over Clare in the Munster Under 21 Hurling Final at Thurles last night.

It was a victory richly deserved by Cork who looked the better side for most of the game. Even against the breeze in the first half they dominated, leading 0-9 to 1-4 at the interval. Danny Scanlans 23rd minute goal kept Clare in the reckoning.

Clare got a great boost with a Niall Gilligan goal at the start of the second half but then Cork moved into overdrive.

Brian O'Driscoll had a goal for them in the second minute followed by a brace of Joe Deane goals to open a seven point lead. The game was over as a contest and Cork pulled steadily clear in the closing minutes for a most comfortable win.

Joe Deane was the star for Cork but the performances of Sean Og O hAilpin, Kevin Long, Eamonn Morrissey, Michael O'Connell and Kevin Egan were also worthy of note.

Clare's best were John O'Brien, Pat Hayes, Richard Woods, Brian Minogue and Niall Gilligan.
