JOHN COOK clinched his first US PGA Tour victory in four years when he won the £900,000 St Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee yesterday. The 38-year-old from Ohio, moreover, missed a tour record by one stroke when his chip shot on the last hole bounced off the pin.
Cook closed with a two-under-par 69 and finished with a four-round total 26-under 258, one stroke off the tour record low for 72 holes set by Mike Souchak at the 1955 Texas Open.
Cook, who took £162,000 away with him, has not won on the Tour since capturing three tournaments in 1992. He did, however, win the Mexican Open during the tour's off-season last year.
John Adams, who has never won in 20 years on Tour, finished second after four bogeys and five birdies gave him a final round 70 for a 265 total.
