Dermott Lennon, the Co Down-based show jumper whose double clear to clinch the British Nations Cup earned him a last-minute call-up for team duty at Kerrygold Dublin this week, missed out on a £25,000 bonus in Dublin yesterday.
The 31-year-old won the first leg of the Celbridge/Dun Laoghaire challenge on Sunday with the mare Garronturton Lady from amongst a field that included several of the British riders who will be competing at the RDS from tomorrow.
Lennon had also won at Celbridge on Saturday with Ivydene, but hopes of a Grand Prix win at Dun Laoghaire yesterday which would have netted him the £25,000 bonus were thwarted when Garronturton Lady faulted in the first round and was retired.
Honours in the Pavilion Group Grand Prix eventually went to Francis Connors who won with Cruiseway from a four-way jump-off. The Waterford jockey also rode Emerald Rock to a shared victory in the six-bar with Billy Twomey and Huntingtown after five rounds ended over a six-foot upright.
