Controversial Shelbourne striker Richie Foran yesterday completed a surprise move to Carlisle United after Roddy Collins persuaded the board of the cash-strapped club to put up around £80,000 to sign the 21-year-old.
The deal, which is said to provide for a number of bonus payments relating to appearances and goals, could eventually result in the Dublin club receiving "well over £100,000," for the player who had previously been linked with moves to QPR and Aberdeen.
"I've put my head on the block to get him," said Collins, whose new employers have spent a total of £10,000 on players during the last four seasons, "but I believe that this is only a stepping stone for him and that he can go all the way."
Meanwhile, Garry Haylock also left Tolka Park yesterday. The 30-year-old Bradford-born striker joined Glentoran on a three-month loan with a view to a permanent deal. Haylock spent most of last season in the Irish league with Glenavon.
