STEVE COLLINS and Naseem Hamed have been lined up for a double world title bill on October 12th. Promoter Frank Warren is deciding on a venue big enough in Britain to accommodate the crowd he anticipates.
Hamed, the WBO featherweight champion, will have a unification fight against American IBF title holder Tom Johnson, if both come through defences in Dublin on August 31st. Hamed faces Mexican Manuel Medina and Johnson takes on Ramon Guzman, of Venezuela.
Collins will make his fifth defence of the WBO super middleweight title against an opponent to be named. Last month Collins beat Nigel Benn in front of a 20,000 crowd at the Nynex Arena in Manchester.
Warren said yesterday: "That was a huge event for British boxing, but this will be bigger. We haven't decided on a venue yet. It is difficult to find somewhere that will hold the crowd we are expecting.
"When I asked Steve if he minded fighting on the same night as Chris Eubank's comeback in the Middle East, he laughed. "He told me he had beaten the man twice and the public would not be interested in travelling all that way to watch someone with nothing left to give.
Eubank is back in boxing and will take his "Style on the Nile" to Cairo on October 12th.
The former WBO middle and super middleweight champion's comeback, starting against Argentinian Dario Matteoni, will be limited to the Middle East.
