GOLF:REBECCA COAKLEY moved into contention at the Scottish Open yesterday after a second round 70 saw the Irish professional in a tie for third, three shots behind Korea's Jeehae Lee, who will start today's final round with a one-stroke lead over England's Trish Johnson.

Lee finished on a two-under par total of 142 with a round to play in East Lothian. Johnson, who led after opening with a 69, yesterday carded a 74 to finish the day in second with five players – including Coakley – in a group two shots further back. Martina Gillen carded a second successive round of 77.

Meanwhile, Cork’s Gillian O’Leary dramatically dropped out of contention for the British Open Stroke-play title at Tenby in West Wales yesterday after an eight on the par three 17th.

The Irish international, just two strokes off the pace after the first round, played in the worst of the weather late in the day and was never able to reproduce her form of the first day. And when she dropped those five strokes on the 165-yard 17th she finished with an 86 – 16 strokes worse than her opening day offering.
