AN Australian swimming disciplinary panel in Brisbane has recommended that coach Scott Volkers be fined for mistakenly giving world breaststroke record holder Samantha Riley a headache tablet that could ruin her career.
Panel members spoke with Volkers two weeks ago before making a recommendation to its board, which is yet to meet to decide on the case.
Australian swimming executive director Vena Murray confirmed yesterday that Volkers had appeared before a disciplinary board, which had recommended a fine. She would not disclose the amount but it was reported in Brisbane that he could be fined $2,500.
Volkers admitted that he had given 23-year-old Riley a prescribed headache tablet, which led to her being tested positive for a banned drug.
