UNDER-20 SIX NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP: Scotland v IrelandIRELAND UNDER-20 coach Allen Clarke has retained the same starting side for the first time in this year's championship for his team's meeting with Scotland tonight at McDiarmid Park in Perth.
There are, however, two changes to the bench, with prop Adam Macklin coming into the squad in place of Jack O’Connell and Garryowen outhalf Andrew Burke, who started the first game of the championship against France, returning from injury. He has been added to the bench in place of Gary Foley.
Ireland go into the match, having won their games so far. The victories against England (20-19) and France (9-6) at Dubarry Park ensure that, like their senior counterparts, they are chasing a grand slam with the two remaining matches away from home.
“The win against England was a reflection of the strength of the squad’s character and resolve. However, there were particular aspects of our game we were not content with and these have received special attention this week,” said Clarke.
Scotland start with Robbie McGowan at fullback. No longer an easy touch in this competition, especially at home, McGowan came on against Italy to create a try and kick two high pressure penalties in a Scottish win.
The home side also welcome back from injury their first-choice inside centre, Robbie Johnston, who goes straight into the starting line-up.
“Ireland are a very good side. They’re very confident and well coached but we don’t worry too much about the opposition,” said Scotland team manager John Jeffrey.
