Extrovert Paraguayan goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert may be on his way to Liverpool.

Chilavert, 33, who captained his country at the World Cup in France and plays for Velez Sarsfield in Argentina, told reporters in Tokyo that he was considering an offer to join the Merseyside giants. According to Chilavert, Liverpool's first approach followed soon after the World Cup in July but was turned down by his club.

Chilavert is well-known for scoring goals from free kicks and penalties - he has scored over 30 for club and country during his career - and is also one of the world's top goalkeepers.

Finnish striker Jari Litmanen of Ajax has also indicated that he would be interested in signing for Liverpool. Litmanen's contract with the Dutch club is out of contract next June and says he has always wanted to play for Liverpool.
