CHERRY ORCHARD retained the Metropolitan Cup with a fine display at Dalymount Park last night. Newbridge had no answer to Orchard's pace up front but nonetheless fell behind to a rather soft goal after four minutes.

Certainly Paul Kenny was surprised when his rather innocuous shot from just outside the box crept inside Kevin Ward's left hand post.

A challenge from Greg Coleman on Kenny then led to a penalty and Sean Hatch made no mistake with the spot kick.

Newbridge's attempt to get back into the game proved frustrating and this point was illustrated when Noel McHugh stripped the cross bar with a strike from the right hand side of the box.

Newbridge's woe was compounded when Kenny was again upended inside the penalty area and this time drilled the ball low into the corner. Then, with 15 minutes remaining, centre half Ray Murtagh ventured forward to flick home a corner.
