MAYO SFC & SHC: CHARLESTOWN advanced to a county football final meeting with Knockmore following a 1-11 to 0-11 win over Castlebar Mitchels yesterday at McHale Park.
The Mitchels drew level with four minutes to go having trailed by three points. However, a penalty, converted by half back Colm Maye, proved the decisive score after goalkeeper Ciarán Naughton had hauled Tony Mulligan down inside the square.
Early points from Tom Parsons and Richard Haran helped Charlestown lead 0-5 to 0-4 at the break.
Meanwhile, in the county hurling final, Ballyhaunis completed a three-in-a-row of titles by defeating Tooreen 2-9 to 1-7.
