VETERAN striker John Robertson gave Hearts the most unlikely of victories to send them into the last four of the Scottish League Cup. Robertson struck deep into extra-time for the only goal of the game to defeat Celtic.
It was an heroic performance by the Edinburgh side who had to re-mould their team with four players suspended after the red card shame against Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday.
They brought in new signing Andy Thorn from Wimbledon at the heart of their defence and he gave a superb display. But it was a match not without further mishap for Hearts as they had Italian midfielder Stefano Salvatori sent off in 61 minutes for his second bookable offence.
Celtic also had their problems with captain Peter Grant also redcarded for two bookings three minutes into extra-time.
The decisive goal came in 110 minutes when McCann found Robertson and he had an easy chance to beat Marshall with a powerful low shot.
