HENRY CECIL can bite a substantial chunk out of Saeed bin Suroor's lead in the trainers' championship race by saddling Bright Water to win the James Seymour Stakes at Newmarket today.

Time is running out for the master of Warren Place, currently £31,659 adrift of Bin Suroor, especially as he has decided against running any horses on the all weather.

But Bright Water can certainly inject new life into the contest by landing the £11,366 first prize money on offer here.

Winner of a Yarmouth maiden on his sole start as a juvenile, he finished distressed on his Newbury reappearance in April.

He reportedly choked and almost collapsed there and Cecil had to scupper Derby plans after the colt subsequently injured a foot.

Bright Water did not run again until contesting a conditions race over today's course and distance two weeks ago.

But he made up for lost time with a clear cut two and a half length defeat of Desert Shot, which is solid Listed form.

Very highly regarded by Cecil, who wants to keep him in training next season, Bright Water can follow up.

Bin Suroor should also be on the mark however, courtesy of Kumait in the opening EBF Red Lodge Maiden.

The two year old has been a shade disappointing in that he didn't go straight on to win after a promising debut when eighth in the Group Three Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

But there was nothing wrong with his latest run when just under three lengths third of 22 to Baked Alska over today's course and distance and Kumait can make his experience tell in what looks a fairly ordinary maiden by Newmarket standards.

Alexandra Embiricos does well with her small jumping string and saddles the day's best bet at Bangor in the shape of Andros Prince.
