CBC MONKSTOWN'S perserverence paid off in yesterday's Leinster Junior Cup second round tie at Sydney Parade. Templeogue looked to be holding on for a victory when referee Ronald Maher penalised them at a scrum. Although the kick was a fair distance out, scrum half Enda Cawley judged it to perfection to earn Monkstown a deserved replay.
That said, it was a match Monkstown should have won, with Steven O'Connor spurning three very kickable penalties in a five minute spell towards the end of the first half.
Templeogue were too often pulled up for a multitude of transgressions. Nonetheless they gave Monkstown their fair share of problems in the early stages.
After 15 minutes, Templeogue were rewarded for a sustained spell of pressure with scrum half Conor McPhillips, finding the target with a simple penalty in front of the posts.
McPhillips stretched his side's lead 11 minutes after the break but, from there on, it was all Monkstown.
