FC SION, the Swiss team defeated by Liverpool in the European Cup winners Cup last month, are one of four Continental clubs interested in Tony Cascarino, the Republic of Ireland international striker who is expected to be released by Olympique Marseille today.
"I have reached broad agreement on personal terms with two French first division teams, Caen and Nancy," Cascarino said last night.
"But I have also been contacted by Sion and Lausanne in Switzerland and I have an open mind about my next move," he continued. "The situation should become clearer next week, when I expect to reach a financial agreement with the Marseille president prior to my departure."
Despite scoring 70 goals for Marseille in the past two seasons, Cascarino is currently out of favour and wants regular first-team football to boost his claims for inclusion in the Republic of Ireland's squad for the World Cup qualifying campaign.
. Inter Milan striker Nwankwo Kanu will have to wait four months to know if he can play football again, following surgery to correct a serious heart defect.
