Willie Carson punched home many winners around Bath in his riding days and was back in the winner's circle when Success And Glory scored at the track yesterday. Carson was on hand in his role as racing manager to The Thoroughbred Corporation, in whose colours the Henry Cecil-trained three-year-old collected the Norton and Brooksbank Novice Stakes under Kieren Fallon.

Success And Glory made every yard of the running but had to work hard in the closing stages to see off Secret Saver by a length and a quarter.

Inca Tern, trained by Giles Bravery and partnered by Michael Hills, turned the Trowbridge Novice Stakes into a one-horse show when streaking to the front over a furlong out and easily accounting for Consultant.

The filly had been quietly fancied when fifth on her Newmarket debut and had obviously learnt from the experience. Bravery is now considering running her in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. Apprentice Gabriel Hannon was suspended for four days (May 27th-30th) for failing to ride out Robber Red for third place in the race.
