IRELAND SECOND row forward Jeremy Davidson, who played in all three Tests for the Lions on the tour of South Africa, is now being vigorously pursued by several English clubs, including Leicester and Harlequins, and also by Cardiff.

Davidson, who played last season with London Irish, is a free agent as he is out of contract.

Two officials from the Cardiff club met Davidson for 45 minutes in Johannesburg on Sunday in an effort to get him to sign.

Newcastle, whose player-coach, Rob Andrew, was in South Africa for the Tests, have also expressed an interest, but have not made any formal approach.

Davidson said yesterday: "I met the officials from the Cardiff club and we had a discussion. However, I have made no decision about where I will play next season.

Davidson is very close to the London Irish director of rugby, Willie Anderson, and it is certain that he will not make any move until he has had discussions with Anderson.

Tighthead prop, Paul Wallace, who also played in all three Tests, and made a very significant contribution to the Lions' success, is expected to copperfasten his future with Saracens later this week.

"It is very likely that I will sign for Saracens on my return and am likely to complete a two-year contract with the club," he said.
