Cape Verdi is lame behind and unlikely to run in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on Wednesday, July 29th, Godolphin announced last night.
Saeed bin Suroor's impressive five-length winner of the Sagitta 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket was pencilled in for the Group One mile contest after finishing a disappointing ninth to High-Rise when 11 to 4 favourite to beat the colts in the Vodafone Derby.
She had worked well on Thursday morning and Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said: "It's very unfortunate but there's nothing we can do."
With regard to the filly's future career, he said: "Any type of lameness is serious but it is impossible to say what will happen at the moment. Hopefully we will know more over the next few days."
Xaar was yesterday surprisingly withdrawn from his intended comeback race. He has been announced a non-runner in tomorrow's Group Two Prix Eugene Adam at Maisons-Laffitte, in which he was due to race for the first time since he finished fourth in the Sagitta 2,000 Guineas in May.
Prince Khaled's racing manager Grant Pritchard Gordon explained that a minor setback had caused the change of plan.
Xaar, trained by Andre Fabre, was officially rated the best two-year-old in Europe after his seven-length win in the Dewhurst Stakes last October and started 10 to 11 favourite for the Guineas after a successful reappearance in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket.
