Scotland's Andrew Coltart is rewarded for early season consistency with the tag of favourite for Cannes Open at Royal Mougins, as the European Tour resumes in earnest. The field is weakened by the absence of many of the top European golfers, including Ireland's Darren Clarke, who have stayed in America after the US Masters.

The European elite once again cross swords with their American rivals this week, in the MCI Classic at Hilton Head. Those who favour a gamble would therefore be well served with a touch of patriotic punting this week.

Padraig Harrington is on offer at a generous 16/1 while Paul McGinley is even longer with the bookies at 20/1. Harrington, though, may represent the better value. On a less partisan note, talented, if mercurial, Australian Robert Allenby has been hinting that his game might be taking an upward turn.

At 25/1 he represents excellent each way value and Ladbrokes offer a choice in this respect. You can take a quarter of the odds for first to fourth, or a fifth for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
