DAVID CAMPESE (34) will retire from international rugby, tomorrow, "adopting exactly the same attitude he brought with him into the Test arena 14 years and 100 caps ago.
The world's greatest try scorer will bid farewell in front of 50,000 at Cardiff Arms Park, insisting that his beloved Australian team must come first.
"People will say it is bound to be an emotional occasion for me, but my first thoughts, as they always have been, are on the team playing well and winning," he said.
"I've proved to the selectors that I am still good enough, so all I will, be concentrating on is playing well and winning the game."
He added: "I have a contract to play for New South Wales in next year's Super 12 tournament and I intend carrying on turning out for my club Randwick."
Campese's astonishing career achievements may never be matched - 100 internationals, 64 tries against 15 different countries, three World Cup campaigns, a dozen major tours plus numerous awards.
Coach Greg Smith wants wing Campese's talents to be given the best possible stage and has appealed to Scottish referee Ian Ramage - who makes his international debut - for a commonsense approach.
"I would love to see him give players from both sides the opportunity to play rugby as it should be played," Smith said.
