With winter fast approaching, the "run" on the ball is disappearing, especially on parkland courses. Nonetheless, there were some outstanding scores during the week. Noreen Byrne, a 32-handicapper, returned 45 points in the Bayle Cup at Woodenbridge and even that was only good enough for victory by a shot. Mary Martin also racked up 45 points off a 22 handicap to take top honours at Carrickmines.
Lack of run is rarely a problem at County Louth and the ball certainly ran well for Ruth Kelly, who returned a sparkling 7 up in last week's par competition. However, she was trumped by Caroline Ryder whose brilliant 8 up earned first prize.
