MICHAEL JORDAN scored 32 points as the Chicago Bulls tied the National Basketball Association record with their 69th 98-72 over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Cleveland on Sunday night.
The Bulls (69-9) need to win just one of their last four games to become the first NBA team to gain 70 victories. Chicago go for the 70th win tonight at Milwaukee. The 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers (69-13) set the NBA record.
Meanwhile in a game that saw Magic Johnson ejected for bumping a referee and Joe Kleine fall unconscious during the national anthem, the Los Angeles Lakers held off the Phoenix Suns 118-114.
Johnson, who last week scolded team mate Nick Van Exel for pushing a referee, bumped official Scott Foster and was ejected with four minutes 13 seconds left in the second quarter.
Johnson was yesterday suspended for three games and fined $10,000 by the National Basketball Association for bumping the official. Johnson, one of the most popular athletes ever to play in the NBA, said: "I accept the league's fine and suspension and I want all the fans, the media and everyone associated with the Lakers to know that my actions were unprofessional and wrong.
