NIALL BRUTON, the Dublin miler coached by Eamonn Coghlan, is to run in tomorrow's international indoor meeting in Sindelfingen in Germany.

Just a week before he seeks to embellish a remarkable Irish tradition in the world 1,500 metres indoor championship in Paris, Bruton yesterday accepted an invitation to run in the German meeting.

It represents a last, desperate attempt to regain form after a deeply disappointing performance last weekend in Oregon when he failed to make the top four in a 1,500 metres invitation event.

His attitude contrasts with that of James Nolan, the young UCD athlete, whose impressive rate of progression over the last year has earned him an 800 metres nomination in the Irish squad for Paris.

Like Bruton, Nolan was invited to compete in Germany but, on the advice of his coach Noel Carroll, he declined the offer. The only other Irish competitor in action in Sindelfingen will be Mark Mandy in the high jump.
